We are looking for carers to join our new Wiltshire Carer Involvement Group. This exciting opportunity means that you can help to influence change across the county and shape the future of carers’ services. Could you fulfil this role…

Are you?

  • A current or recent carer
  • Passionate about issues that affect unpaid carers in Wiltshire
  • Interested in shaping the future of carers’ services in Wiltshire
  • Keen to be part of a new representative group
  • Interested in speaking up and having your voice heard
  • Prepared to be involved in consulting with, and talking to, other carers
  • Confident in attending formal meetings and reading/reviewing documents – or keen to learn how with assistance and through training.

What qualities should you have?

  • The ability to express your views and the views of other carers and to ask questions within a formal setting
  • A willingness to listen to differing views in a supportive and non-judgemental way
  • The ability to understand the needs of carers as a whole, to help to develop solutions and reach conclusions about local needs based on facts
  • Be able to challenge current thinking in ways that are both creative and supportive
  • Have an understanding of, and a commitment to, equal opportunity and diversity.

What does it involve?

  • You will be required to attend a regular quarterly meeting as well as an initial information, training and induction session
  • You will be expected to give your views on carers’ matters reflecting yours and other carers’ experiences to ensure that all concerns are raised and addressed
  • You will be expected to contribute to the debates and discussions about carers’ services and their developments
  • You may be asked to talk to other carers about the work of the group
  • You may be invited to act as a representative for the group at the quarterly meetings of the Wiltshire Carers Action Group (WCAG)
  • You will be able to claim replacement care costs for the person you care for as well as costs of your travel and time whilst you are at the meetings.
