John’s Campaign Wins Support from NHS

Carer Support Wiltshire and Observer backed John’s Campaign wins support from the NHS.

A significant milestone has been reached by John’s Campaign, the rapidly growing project to break down institutionalised barriers in the NHS and allow carers of people with dementia who are admitted to hospital to be able to stay with them or visit them at any time. Hospitals across the UK are now set to change their policies to allow better access for carers

Dementia sufferers need company of loved ones.

Alzheimer’s Society research show a need for people to spend more time with relatives with the condition in order to prevent loneliness

Two in five people wrongly believe dementia sufferers do not benefit from seeing loved ones they no longer recognise, but research carried out by the Alzheimer’s Society showed a need for people to spend more time with relatives with the condition in order to prevent loneliness.

Alzheimer’s Society chief executive Jeremy Hughes said: “After spending time with friends and family over the festive period, New Year can be a bleak and lonely time for people with dementia and their carers. It’s so important for people with dementia to feel connected throughout the year.

“Spending time with loved ones and taking part in meaningful activities can have a powerful and positive impact, even if they don’t remember the event itself. ”
