National News: Patients can now compare GP services in their area

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has just launched its “intelligent monitoring” database which gives patients the opportunity to see which practices ranked highest on the list of priorities for inspections.

Wiltshire GP practices triumph in their work supporting carers

GP practices across Wiltshire have been recognised for their work with unpaid carers by Carer Support Wiltshire.

The ‘Investors in Carers’ awards were presented at a ceremony at the Corn Exchange in Devizes on Monday 3rd November.

National News: Patients to be ‘prescribed’ smartphone apps to help manage health

A new Government strategy will encourage GPs to ‘prescribe’ free apps to help them to improve certain areas of their health and lifestyle.

The apps will cover things such as diet and exercise and blood sugar monitoring.

National News: Scheme to get people self-monitoring their health is quietly scrapped

A flagship scheme announced in 2011 to get three million monitoring their own blood pressure and other vital signs has been dropped after being deemed too expensive and ineffective.

It was claimed that it would save the NHS £1.2billion a year by keeping people with long-term conditions out of hospital.
