Talk and Support Befriending & Events

How long have you been a volunteer?

Three years.

Why did you want to volunteer for Carer Support Wiltshire?

I thought that when I retired I wouldn’t be able to sit and do nothing so always planned to volunteer. It was when my husband became ill and I had the help and support from Carer Support Wiltshire that volunteering with Carer Support Wiltshire was a natural path.

What do you gain from volunteering?

I really enjoy people. I find the company of others fulfilling and my volunteering works both ways. Volunteering enables me to give something back.

I enjoy my talk and support befriending; I have been matched with two carers who have very different caring roles. The calls can be challenging but I feel my calls make a difference to their day.

When I volunteer I think it is important to give a little of yourself, to be upbeat and positive in spite of your own personal life and what you have on that day.
